“See you next year, friends!”

Wow, what a weekend!  We wrapped up the last Southern Stockhorse Association show of the year.  Erik, my husband, has shown with this association for two years.  My sister {Kirsten} has competed in it for five years.  It’s been a part of our lives for a long time!

The Southern Stockhorse Association {SSA} was established for the sole purpose of promoting the stock horse/ranch horse through versatility shows.  For more information on this association, checkout my sister’s article in the Southeast Equine Magazine {Pages 24 and 25} or click ==> Southern Stockhorse Website.

Basically, it’s an amazing group of people with a passion for horses and fellowship with friends!

Our horse show weekend went something like this…

We arrived around 9:00 pm on Friday night.  Erik got a late night riding session in before the competition on Saturday.  Jax and I relaxed and watched.

Saturday morning, 7:00 am came bright and early!  Erik fed his horse and we got ready for the day ahead.  Show starts at 8:00am.  You must have your horse warmed up and ready for the classes.  Erik competes in 7 classes throughout the day.  I am taking pictures, helping anyway I can, and visiting with friends.

Erik did very well in his classes.  He shows a young horse {Miss Kitty} that he’s been training throughout the year.  This was their best show yet!

My sister also did a great job!  I’m so proud of both of them.

We finished up the show around 8:00 pm; tired and very hungry!  The sunset was beautiful after a long day showing.

We went to a late dinner at a local BBQ joint with friends and family.

We were up this morning {Sunday} at 7:00 am for breakfast, cowboy church, and the year end awards banquet.

My dad preached cowboy church.  There were a lot of cowboys and a great message to be heard.  It was a nice way to say, “see you next year” to our SSA friends!
Erik ended up 4th place overall in his division!  Whoooo!

My sister got Reserve Senior Youth Champion!  {Way to go, sis!!}

Fun was had by all and lots of great memories were made this year!  There’s just something about the people of SSA that keep you coming back for more.  They are kind, genuine, help each other out, good sports and all around the friendliest you’ve ever met!

So until next time, we’ll “see you next year, friends”!
