“I Need More Coffee”

“I need more coffee.”  That was my slogan for the weekend.

We left Thursday evening for Waxhaw, NC.  We had plans for my husband and sister to attend a 4 day Martin Black Horsemanship Clinic at Sugaree Ranch.  We arrived late, got the horses and ourselves settled in, and got some rest.

The next morning I was reminded; there’s just something about being in the middle of nowhere, having a cup of coffee, being in a barn, and watching the leaves fall that is peaceful.

The clinic had 2 sessions per day, morning and afternoon.  Erik and Kirsten learned something new every hour.  They enjoyed being with Mr. Martin Black {A.K.A. a legend, so Erik says}.

The ranch we spent most of our time at was a quaint place.  It was beautiful.  Hills, fences and horses as far as you could see.

Our host, Will and Zoë, were so kind.  Plus, they were exceptional horse folk.

We made a lot of new friends.

We had a campfire every night.  It felt like a glimpse of my childhood the whole weekend.

It was such a good thing for me.  Being out in the middle of nowhere.  It makes you slow down.  It makes your mind wander.  Even though there were times I found myself somewhat bored, doodled out and our coffee maker broke {don’t worry, we found the nearest gas station}…I still felt blessed to be able to spend a weekend with my husband, dad and sister.

My mom, who doesn’t miss a thing, couldn’t make it this weekend. Her mother has Alzheimer’s.  She is her caretaker and a dang good woman.  We missed her dearly.

The rain came on Sunday. We moved to a place down the road to a covered arena, thankfully.

It was still raining when we left and headed home yesterday evening.  I have never been so happy to have a hot meal, hot shower and sleep.  Now, where’s the coffee?

Love,

Fallon

    S.D.,

Good stuff, I could almost hear the rain, feel the sun and smell the campfire. It wasn’t picture overload either, just enough…

    Now, go get that coffee…
